DIAMOND FILMS 9.5MM CATALOGUE
Diamond Films seem to have appeared in the mid 1950s - there are little advertisements in the classified columns of Amateur Cine World during 1956 when their address was 151a High Street, Slough, Buckinghamshire (UK). They offered 8mm/9.5mm/16mm films, equipment and processing. Initially they were retail agents for other firms like Walton, Peak, Adventure etc. but the August 1956 magazine listed a few short films in 8mm and 16mm at very low prices (I guess these were just 25ft 8mm and 50ft 16mm prints).
Later having moved along the road to 235a High Street, Slough, Buckinghamshire, they found their forte selling glamour films, both with titles from Walton & Mountain Films and a range of exclusive Diamond Films products. By 1962 Diamond Films advertised a range of 1 reel and short 4 minute titles of vintage comedies, an interesting vintage compilation "Grandad's Movies", and various interest items, presumably filmed for or by themselves. These titles and the glamour range were offered in all three sizes - the 9.5mm copies being produced for them by Walton, reperforating 16mm prints. This gave good quality prints on 9.5mm but at quite a price - a 100ft Kodachrome film cost £7-10sh (£7.50); a 100ft B/W film cost £3, whilst 'one reelers' were £7-5sh. in both 9.5mm or 16mm. This was rather more than the Walton prints (100ft Kodachrome at £6-6sh.) no doubt because the Diamond film releases were printed by the laboratory individually as orders arrived. Incidentally all the Kodachrome titles were also available in black and white. Later prices dropped a little with 9.5mm 100ft B/W prints reduced to £2-10sh (£2.50).
The lists below are repeated - the first list is in numberic order, the second alphabetic. Naturally all the titles were also offered in Std 8mm and 16mm versions. Incidentally in the mid-1960s, the ninefive main dealer D.M. Bentley produced huge printed film catalogues listing films from all distributors. He offered all of the available 16mm silent prints in 9.5mm (getting them reperforated by Walton Films), so other Diamond Film releases may turn up in 9.5mm, but perhaps were not actually offered by Diamond in 9.5mm versions originally - complicated!
